We have had a few good days with very little drama. James has been exhausted from chemo. He is only up for a few hours and then goes to sleep for a long time. He has been able to work for a few hours each of the last few days. He wishes he could work longer, but is just too tired. We met with the doctor today. She said about 30% of patients have that reaction to chemo. Of course, since we are the .001% for everything lately, it would seem that James' luck would have it that he would be in that 30%. We figure if we get all of our bad luck out of the way, we will be in good shape for when it really counts! The doctor gave James an intravenous drug to help with nausea. She is concerned about how much weight he has lost and told him his job is to not lose anymore.
We are going to meet with a radiation oncologist tomorrow. The plan is still to do a partial chemo treatment next week and then to get rescanned in 4 weeks. If nothing lights up in the scan (the PET scan actually lights up active cells, which include cancer cells, and normal cells are gray), then James will have 3 weeks of radiation. Otherwise, he will have to do a different kind of chemotherapy. We are praying for radiation. Who would have ever thought we would be praying for radiation? James is still having quite a bit of chest pain that the oncologist cannot explain and so set up an appointment for us to see the CT surgeon next week. If James' pain would subside, it would be so nice. He still sleeps sitting up most nights and is still taking strong pain medication. James is getting chemo now and resting comfortably. My Mom kept the kids overnight and they are having a nice time. Ava is getting lots of teeth suddenly. It seems to be impacting her sleeping schedule, but she has stayed very happy. My mom said she woke up a few times in the night to sing. She is sweet. Adalyn is busy. She is so busy reading books, dancing, doing crafts (thanks Cailin) and getting her toys before Ava gets them, that she does not have time to go to the bathroom. She is having lots of accidents. We are sure it is just situational and temporary. Even without accidents, she insists of changing her clothes a lot during the day. So many clothes, so little time as she sees it. As the laundry-doer, we don't quite see eye to eye on that. They love the time with Grandma and Grandpa. They are so much fun right now, we just love them! Whenever we come to chemo I get the little cans of juice and little treats and take them home for Adalyn. They are just her size, she says. She loves it.
