To the OR Tomorrow

We met with the cardio-thoracic surgeon today who confirmed that James lung is herniating into his ribs.  Apparently when they went in to do the original biopsy the mass was pushing through the ribs.  They were able to get enough of a tissue sample to biopsy without being very invasive and then closed him up.  The tumor started shrinking and his lung started filling in the space. Now every time he inhales, his lung moves into his ribs and it is very painful.  The surgeon said he has never seen this problem and felt bad that he didn't do something to prevent it.  He put James on the operating schedule for tomorrow.  As a fellow tenor saxophone player, the surgeon committed to getting James' "pipes" working again.  Just what we are hoping for.  Here we go again....I think we are ready to join the 99% of the population where weird stuff isn't the norm. We are hopeful for a fast recovery and for a little less drama.
