Another Trip to the ER

Today was full of excitement...again!  James awoke with terrible chest pain.  The oncologist was concerned about a pulminary embolism (a blood clot in his lung) and wanted to have a CT scan done as soon as possible and suggested that we start heading to the ER.  After several tests, they found a slight hint of a pneumothorax in his left lung and noted that his lung appeared to be herniating a little near his surgical site.  After several hours we were given the okay to go home.  We spoke with the oncologist 6 times after arriving home.  After their review of the CT scan, they consulted with the cardio-thoracic surgeon who performed the original thoracotomy and we are expecting to hear from him tomorrow after he meets with the radiologist to review the scan.  Apparently the herniating lung could be causing some problems, and more importantly, severe pain.  Who knew a lung could herniate?!?

Needless to say, we are exhausted.  I guess we knew that cancer would be emotionally challenging and that chemo would be physically challenging, but we never prepared ourselves for this level of stress and fatigue.  We will be grateful when the pain subsides and James can be more comfortable. We are hoping for better days ahead.  And as Adalyn said this morning, "Dad, it is going to be okay!"  WE LOVE YOU JAMES!
